چکیده

There are two possibilities for the orbits: • If the orbit Oφ(x) is finite, we say that x is a preperiodic point. • If the orbit Oφ(x) is infinite, we say that x is a wandering point. A important subset of the preperiodic points consists of those points whose orbit eventually return to its starting point. These are called periodic points. Example. Consider the polynomial φ(z) = z − 1 as a map Z → Z. Then 1 −→ 0 −→ ←− −1, so 1 is preperiodic, while 0 and −1 are periodic. It is easy to see that every other element of Z is wandering, since limn→∞ ∣φn(z) ∣∣ = ∞, and more generally, the only φ-preperiodic points in Q are {−1, 0, 1}.

Arizona Winter School 2014 Course Notes: Asymptotics for Number Fields and Class Groups

These are expanded lecture notes for a series of five lectures at the Arizona Winter School on " Arithmetic statistics " held March 15-19, 2014 in Tucson, Arizona. They are not intended for publication; in fact, they are largely drawn from articles that have already been published and are referenced below. We start by giving an introduction to some of the most basic questions of arithmetic stat...

Heegner point computations over function fields

These are the notes of an expanded version of the project done under the direction of Douglas Ulmer at Arizona Winter School 2000 The Arithmetic of Function Fields. We carefully explain how to compute explicitly the Heegner points for an elliptic curve defined over F2(T ).

Overconvergent modular symbols Arizona Winter School 2011

Course description: This course will give an introduction to the theory of overconvergent modular symbols. This theory mirrors the theory of overconvergent modular forms in that both spaces encode the same systems of Hecke-eigenvalues. Moreover, the theory of overconvergent modular symbols has the great feature of being easily computable and is intimately connected to the theory of p-adic L-fun...
